Travel and Transport

This section tells you how to get around London safely and easily using all the different kinds of public transport available – and about websites where you can find details of bus stops, train stations and timetables you need. You’ll also find all you need to know about Oyster Child photocards for free bus and cheaper tube and train travel.

From 1 September everyone under 16 has been able to travel free on buses and trams. You just need to get an Oyster Child photocard – you’ll also need it to pay the child rate on the Tube and some overland trains.

By now, you’ve probably been on most types of public transport: buses, trams, the Tube, and overland trains, like the Docklands Light Railway, Thameslink and Silverlink.
