Travel and Transport

This section tells you how to get around London using all the different kinds of public transport available, and advice on how to get to places safely and easily. You can also find out how to apply for an Oyster Child photocard if you need one.

From 1st September 2005 everyone under 16 has been able to travel free on buses and trams – and as you’re under 14, you don’t need an Oyster Child photocard (unless you’re taking the tram to or from Wimbledon). You also pay cheaper fares on the Tube and some overland trains.

In London, there are many types of public transport – more than anywhere else in the country. By your age, you’ve probably been on most of them: buses, trams, the Tube, and overland trains, like the Docklands Light Railway, Thameslink and Silverlink.
