Health Year 9 intro

How healthy are you really? We all know we should be eating the right things, and doing some exercise, but getting round to it is another matter. This section gives you straightforward advice on how to improve your health, as well as information on things like smoking, drugs, and going through puberty.

There are two main eating disorders – Anorexia and Bulimia. Both men and women can get them – and it’s usually a way for people to deal with negative emotions or a lack of control, not because they’re worried about their weight.

Spots. Whether you get the odd one, or you’ve got really bad acne, they’re something you’ll probably have to deal with over the next few years.

Although legally you have to be 16 to have sex (or 17 in Northern Ireland), many people do it younger than that.

If you’re a parent, you need to think about your child’s health, as well as your own.

If you take drugs, you’re taking a big risk. You’ll never know exactly what you’re taking and the affect they can have on you – and you could seriously damage your organs, such as your heart and brain, or even die.

Got a question about something to do with your health? Here’s who to contact.

Over the next few years, as you probably know, you’ll be going through puberty. It’s all part of growing up and it marks your transition from a child to an adult.

The best way to keep yourself safe when you’re out is to take sensible precautions.
